Public Opinion Strategies polled for one-third of GOP House pick-ups, nine Senators, and four Governors

The survey research firm of Public Opinion Strategies (POS) polled for nine winning U.S. Senate candidates, four Governors, and 27 new members of Congress. Including independent expenditure efforts, Public Opinion Strategies polled in 23 Senate and Gubernatorial statewide victories and 96 Congressional victories, including 63 seats wrestled away from Democrats by Republicans.

Major statewide winners were:

  • Senator-elect Rand Paul of Kentucky, Senator-elect Dan Coats of Indiana, and Senator-elect Jerry Moran of Kansas.
  • Senator Richard Burr of North Carolina, Senator Mike Crapo of Idaho, Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina, Senator John McCain of Arizona, Senator John Thune of South Dakota, and Senator David Vitter of Louisiana.
  • Governor-elect Susana Martinez of New Mexico, Governor-elect Sam Brownback of Kansas, Governor-elect Dennis Daugaard of South Dakota, as well as Tom Emmer of Minnesota, who is currently locked in a recount.
  • Governor David Heineman of Nebraska.

POS handled the polling for 22 Republicans who took over Democratic seats in the House of Representatives: Sandy Adams (FL 24), Rick Berg (ND AL), Larry Buchson (IN 8), Steve Chabot (OH 1), Chip Cravaack (MN CD 8), Rick Crawford (AR 1), Scott DesJarlais (TN 4), Sean Duffy (WI 7), Mike Fitzpatrick (PA 8), Chris Gibson (NY 20), Robert Hurt (VA 5), Bill Johnson (OH 6), Adam Kinzinger (IL 11), Raul Labrador (ID 1), David McKinley (WV 1), Mick Mulvaney (SC 5), Kristi Noem (SD AL), Reid Ribble (WI 8), Scott Rigell (VA 2), Martha Roby (AL 2), Bobby Schilling (IL 17), and Todd Young (IN 9).

The firm also polled for five new members of Congress who won Republican open seats: Justin Amash (MI 3), Mo Brooks (AL 5), Jeff Denham (CA 19), Billy Long (MO 7), and Todd Rokita (IN 4).

POS now polls for 20 U.S. Senators, five Governors, and 70 members of the House of Representatives.

The firm also polled for successful state legislative efforts in Alabama, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Oregon, Montana, Nevada, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Wisconsin, including GOP takeover of control in six chambers – the Iowa State House, the Michigan State House, the North Carolina State Senate, the Ohio State House, Tennessee State House, and the Wisconsin State Assembly.

The firm conducted the opinion research which guided eight successful ballot issues in California, Colorado, Florida, Oregon, and South Dakota
